2 Day City Slickers Ride: $450
This is the shorter of our 2 day river rides and is a great option to ease yourself into a multi day horseback adventure. After we’ve gone through the basic horse controls and a warm up for horse & rider, we head out the back gate and into the bush trails of the Mansfield State Forest. With our continual guidance, you can improve your riding techniques along the way while you get more comfortable on your experienced mountain horse who’ll look after you along the journey ….. before you know it you’ll feel like Jim Craig, The Man From Snowy River!
After a couple of hours in the saddle you’ll be ready for a good stretch of those muscles you never knew you had so we’ll be stopping at Timbertop Gap for refreshments, snacks and a good break. With bodies rested, it’s time to get back on your horse and hit the trails for the descent into Sheepyard Flat for lunch by the Howqua River.
After lunch we make our way across the river and along the trails to the iconic Frys Hut where you will be greeted by your base camp for the night. Now is a good time for an afternoon swim in the Howqua river along with a few drinks while your hearty bush dinner and camp fire are prepared. At dusk (weather permitting), an outdoor movie will be screened for those who are still awake before settling down for a night in your swag under the stars in the High Country.
Arise bright and early the next morning for a full breakfast to recharge those bodies. For those who want to learn more and develop a bond with their horse, you are invited to assist with the morning horse feed and enjoy a mini clinic for an hour where you will learn how to communicate with your horse through the art of natural horsemanship. If this isn’t your thing, there are still plenty of other activities to do – or just simply relax by the river with a cuppa!
By late morning we mount our trusty steeds and head upwards out of the Howqua Valley towards Mt Timbertop where you will get a chance for another rest break with refreshments and snacks. Sadly, it’s time to get on your horse for the final time and make our way towards home, taking in magnificent views of the High Country and surrounds along the steep descent back into Merrijig.
You will be back at our property where you started around mid – late afternoon for a well-deserved break at The Stables with snacks and refreshments provided before your journey back to the Big Smoke!
This ride is suitable for all levels of experience.
